Comhairle Nan Eilean Siar

Comhairle nan Eilean SiarĀ (Western Isles Council) is the local authority for Na h-Eileanan an Iar council area of Scotland.

Who we are

As a Local Authority organisation, we deliver Employability Programmes that offer one to one support and coaching that assist individuals with multiple barriers and support needs through a progression route into volunteering, part or full-time employment, Further Education, or Apprenticeships.

Who we support

We support and encourage Individuals with additional support needs, and multiple barriers to undertake a programme of Training in relation to life skills, for further progression towards employability.

Programme Objectives:

  • Offer support to our trainees along the employability pathway
  • To encourage trainees to increase confidence, and gain independence
  • To encourage a work ethic within our trainees through placements through the Employability Programme.
  • To encourage our trainees to recognise their true potential
  • To make individuals feel part of a team.

Why we’re an Apt partner

Partnering with Apt would be positive in terms of expansion of a deeper understanding of the challenges out with our own Local Authority area and gaining a deeper understanding of the Disability Employment Gap Scotland wide. This will allow us to explore shared approaches and additional good practice, ensuring positive support methods to individuals with barriers and disabilities. A joined-up partnership approach allows a more effective and successful outcome for individuals. This delivered through shared signposting to platforms of training based on individual needs is a result of a concentrated team effort and approach, assisting them to reach their personal goals in terms of a positive destination status.
