Apt is working with employers across Scotland, supporting them to gather disability data by encouraging employees to confidently disclose and discuss their disabilities.
But why do employers need to ask for information about disability?
Because disabled employees should feel valued, respected and understood in all organisations.
Employers are learning more about disability but often don’t have the information to fully understand their employees individual requirements. The more meaningful information they have, the more they can support their staff.
This is also relevant during the recruitment process. From our research, we know that disabled applicants feel more confident when employers demonstrate their commitment to disability inclusion as part of the recruitment process.
This is why we’ve launched the ‘Why you askin’?’ campaign.
We are working with employers across Scotland, supporting them to gather disability data by encouraging employees to disclose their disabilities and discuss what reasonable adjustments will make it easier for them to reach their potential, by creating an open dialogue and trust culture in organisations. An important part of this is for employees to understand why the employer is asking for this information and feel confident that it is being used for a positive reason.
Talking about disability helps to create a workplace that works for everyone. “We are positive that the work we’re undertaking will change the landscape in Scotland, bringing permanent change to business cultures, attitudes, and approaches.” Apt.
